Beauty: Men's Skincare

I like to think I know my skincare but I don't know men's skincare too well. So I'm handing the reins over to my dear dad to offer his pearls of wisdom. Welcome to the blog dad!

Hello!

Over the years I've seen Sophie reviewing some cracking things on the blog so when she mentioned she needed someone to offer their skincare routine, I elbowed her boyfriend out of the way and put myself forward! As I spent all of my time working outside through the wind, rain or shine, my skin takes a battering so I like to offer it some TLC. I like to think it helps me to keep looking young!

This Clinque For Men Charcoal Face Wash* is a god send. I can really feel the charcoal drawing out the day's dirt. I work quite a messy job so it's well needed! My face feels so refreshed and smooth. I use it three times a week when I get home from work - it makes all the difference. It's fragrance free so it's great for sensitive skin. Keep in mind it does give your skin a tingling feeling but it's nothing to be alarmed about!

I sadly suffer with quite dry skin so am constantly on the look out to help keep it under control. This is where Kiehls Facial Fuel* comes in handy! Packed with SPF 15, it helps to protect my face while I'm trying to hide from the sun on the roof. It helps to lift my dull skin and makes me look so much more awake. I apply in the morning after I've given my face a quick wash with soap and water. - simply rub in with clean hands. Even my wife has noticed a different so it must be doing it's thing!

One of the main perils of having dry skin is that shaving can sometimes be painful. Ouch! But Clinque For Men Post-shave Soother* helps to soothe razor burn and stop the redness from appearing. The cool, aloe formula feels amazing on my face. I don't mind shaving so much now!

A few favourites #4

It's that time again when I talk you through a few of my favourite things! It's been a while since my last set. A real mixture of clothing, beauty and food this time!

Ryan Gosling Mug*: What will cheer you up more than a mug with the handsome Ryan Gosling on it? Not much I don't think! For days where your brain doesn't function and all you can think about is being elsewhere, this mug sums everything up in one sentence. Sometimes the Goss and Chocolate can be the only way to tackle the day. Make sure you check out Tea Please for some more quirky mugs.

New Look Tropical print culottes: I am having a massive love affair with culottes at the moment - it's all I seem to be buying! These beauties were less than £18 and fit like a dream. They will be perfect for sight seeing while I'm in Barcelona and with just a pair of heels, they work for the evening too.

Rio Rio Topshop Lipstick: I'm always impressed by Toyshop's lipstick offering and this gorgeous red is no different. It's a fantastic orange toned red and I'd imagine it'd look brilliant with a tan. Definitely going in my Barcelona make up bag!  It tends to bleed so a lipliner is an essential.

Organic Gusto Cola*: At only 49 calories per can, this is the ideal low calorie treat. Anyone else feel slightly alarmed at the fact you can drink almost your whole daily calorie allowance thanks to some drinks?! Fairtrade and organic means it's practically guilt free. It's perfect in a glass with lots of ice and a slice of lemon.

Hubby for Dessert Essie Nail Polish: This is actually part of their bridal range but I thought it was perfect for the summer so snuck it into my suitcase when I went to Chicago earlier on in the year. It needs a good three coats to become opaque but it's well worth the hassle. It's such a gorgeous, subtle shade for the warmer months.

St Moriz Medium Fake Tan*: I used to be all about the fake tan but for the past few years I've kinda fallen out of love with it. But I had a Christening last weekend and my pasty pins were offending my eyes so I brought out the big guns. St Moriz. Now I know why I love it so much. The mousse is easy peasy to apply, dries almost instantly and gives a lovely golden colour without looking too orange. I think I'm going to be a slave to this fake tan until my holiday in August.

Bounce Energy Balls*: I'm the first to admit that I'm not a fitness addict - these wobbly thighs will agree with that. But I am trying to get into running. I completed a 5k back in May and have been keen to keep up the momentum. These tasty energy balls have been great to snack on after I get back home - I'm always so ravenous so they do the trick. My personal favourite is the Cacao Mint flavour.

Beauty - In my travel wash bag

With only two months until my summer holiday to Barcelona - can I get hell yeah? - I started thinking about what to pack in my holiday wash bag. A girl can never be too prepared. I love the sun but it can play havoc on your body. It leaves mine feeling dry and dehydrated which is never a good look. These are some products that should be in your arsenal when you jet of in search of some sun!

Aussie Miracle Recharge Moisture Lightweight Conditioning Spray
Thanks to my love of long locks, it means I have to deal with a hell of a lot of knots. I tend not to use conditioner too often after I shampoo because it makes my hair greasy. So this is the perfect de-tangle remedy. Your hair can get extremely dry after a day in the sun and needs to be kept in good condition.  This wonder product brings back the moisture it craves and helps to make it easier to handle. After a day spent in the sea or swimming pool, your hair will need a lot of TLC!

Delph Sun Lotion Factor 30 c/o
I never go lower than factor 30 on a sun cream. The older I'm getting, the more I'm becoming less of a sun worshipper. Not only is there the risk of skin cancer but also the risk of premature aging. Shudder! I like my sun cream to be non-greasy and thick so that I feel like it's doing it's job. This one fits the ticket perfectly. The great thing about the lotion is it's moisturising too - the sun can be a nightmare drying out your skin!

Delph After Sun Gel c/o
When I'm away I'm so conscious of my tan fading that I become a slave to after sun! I much prefer a gel based after sun as it feels much more cooler and refreshing on my skin - especially if I'm a little sunburnt. Ouch! The sun gel sinks into the skin immediately and leaves no greasy residue. You can almost get dressed straight away after application. There's nothing worse than slipping around in your dress and your skin feeling a bit sticky.

Soap and Glory Super Tonic Fragrance Orangeasm
When I'm on holiday I like a light and fruity scent - nothing too overpowering and heavy. I much prefer a body spray rather than an actual perfume. This zesty orange scented spray is perfect. It's not too long lasting but the bottles small enough to pop in your beach bag to keep topping up throughout the day.

V05 Give Me Texture Rough & Sexy Salt Spray c/o
I like to keep my hair as low-matienance as possible when I'm abroad in a hot country. I don't want to spend hours pimping and preening when there are cocktails to be drunk! This is why I love salt sprays. I simply rough dry my hair with a towel, liberally spray a salt spray all over and pop up in a topknot until it dries. Voila! I'm left with beachy waves.

Simple Kind To Skin+ Moisture Boost Hydro Mist c/o
In any extreme weather, my skin struggles to cope. This fine mist is great to help give dehydrated skin a much needed boost. It absorbs almost immediately and can also be worn over make up. It's great to keep in your beach bag for when your face needs a little helping hand throughout the day.

Nivea Firming Body Oil
This is my holy grail. I'm on around my 6/7th bottle since the beginning of the year. I use it religiously everyday in my legs and it helps to keep them in tip top shape. It's helped to severely reduce my blemishes and helps to keep shaving rashes and dryness at bay. There's no way I'm leaving it at home!

Yes To Coconut Dry Skin Ultra Light Body Lotion Spray c/o
For the rest of my body I need a lightweight body lotion that absorbs quickly yet keeps my body hydrated. I don't my tan to peel if I can help it! Coconut is my favourite scent and this smells gorgeous. The spray nozzles gives out just the right amount of product and is simple to use when you're in a rush to get down to that dinner buffet!

Beauty: Products to help keep your face under control

The constant change in seasons is hard on your skin. One minute it's bright sunshine and the second it's pouring with rain and you're having to bring your scarf out of storage. I don't know about you but my skin isn't too sure how to react and gets in a right old state. Luckily I've got a few wonder products in my arsenal to help keep my face under control.

Super Facialist By Una Brennan Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask: I'm a massive fan of this beauty brand. I think it's such good value for money and it does exactly what it promises on the tin. I usually pop it on a few times a week after I've had a shower. It's brilliant to put on after a clay mask. As someone who commutes into London fairly often and spends a lot of time with air con, my skin takes a battering. But this product makes me skin feel plumper and the dryness is soon blasted away. It helps to keep dullness at bay and smells absolutely gorgeous. It's quite a strong scent so it's not for the faint hearted. You have to like rose!

Super Facialist By Una Brennan Tea Flower Deep Clean Pore Purifying Clay Mask: I'm a massive advocate of clay masks and this one is up there as one of my favourites. I soon notice the frequent breakouts if I'm lax on applying this for a few weeks. It's great for sensitive skin and my face never feels tight after use. The mask is great for banishing those pesky blackheads - after just a few weeks they start to vanish. It's quite a thin consistency so I do like to slaver it on but this helps to make it easier to wash off.

Origins Drink Up Overnight Intensive Mask: This is my wonder product. I cannot sing it's praises enough! You need the tinniest amount to help make a difference. My skin soaks this up like a good 'un. I use it at night after I've double cleansed and let it soak in before getting into bed. In the morning my skin is fresh-looking, smooth and hydrated. I tend to use it between 2-4 times a week depending on the dreaded weather!

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Antioxidant Facial Oil c/o I'd always been a bit reluctant to put oil on my face but after reading lots of reviews praising it, I finally took the plunge. I'm extremely glad I did! I pop this hydrating oil on between cleansing and moisturising before I go to bed. It only need 2-3 drops to take effect. The next morning my skin feels refreshed and ready to take on the world. Keep in mind it can get a little greasy if you opt for too much!

Maskeraide Weather Warrior Sheet Mask c/o I was intrigued when I was sent this at work and couldn't wait to try it out. No wonder they've gotten such high praise! A sheet mask comes from South Korea and are one of the next big things in beauty - although I am a little late to the party. You leave them on for 20 minutes and it's like having a cheeky spa treatment at home. It has an almost instant effect after use. My skin has never looked to perky and bright! Definately a good shout to use before you're heading on a night out and need some TLC.

A few favourites #3

I thought I hadn't done of these for a while and I'm loving or rather getting obsessed with a lot of things. Things I think you should know about. So here we go!

1. Peaky Blinders Boxset
It may have taken me a long time to finally get around to watching this series but now I've fallen completely head over heels. I'm a massive fan of Cillian Murphy anyway and he is absolutely superb in this. He's just so good at being chilling and has such great screen presence. He really doesn't have to say much, his facial expressions tell everything. Helen McCoroy is fantastic as Aunt Polly too. I love a fierce woman. Gangster themed TV shows/films are my favourite genre - I blame watching Goodfellas as a teenager for making me wish I was part of the mafia. 2016 is so far away for season three so I might just have to watch them all over again.

2. Sleek True Colour Lipstick Candy Cane 773 c/o
I always think if you're going to plaster on some lipstick, it's the brighter the better. Sleek always have such a great selection of bright hippies. This one has got the tendency to be drying so I need to make sure I'm on my lip balm game. But it's such a gorgeous colour and so perfectly summery, I'm willing to let that go. Just one slick and you're ready to hit the ground running.

3. Ravel blocked heeled sandals
These were one of those totally necessary but unnecessary purchases. I really don't need any more shoes but they're my favourite thing to buy. During a dangerous browse of TK Maxx, I came across these and immediately needed them for my holiday. I'm a sucker for a bit of leopard print, a block heel and a sandal so when I noticed they were £30 and real leather, I decided to go without eating that week. Thanks to the chunky heel they're actually fairly comfortable. The straps could have the potential to give blisters but the leather will soon give and then they will be PERFECT!

4. Pineapple trinket tray
Everyone and their mother is going crazy for pineapple themed products at the minute. I picked this cute trinket from Paperchase while I was buying a birthday card. I like the rule of one present for you and one present for me. That's how it works right? It was only £6.50 and I thought it'd look right at home on my dressing table. I use it to pop my everyday jewellery in before I go to bed.

5. Paperchase Listbook organiser
I love writing lists, in fact I write things I've already done on a list just so I can feel accomplished. I can't be the only one? This year was going to be the year that I took my blog a lot more seriously and although I've been really happy with the content and the way it's growing, I've not been putting in as much effort as I should have. Real life has got in the way of things. But I've still got seven months of the year left to make a massive push so in a bid to get organised, I treated myself to this organiser to pop in my bag. I'm going to use it to write down post ideas, schedule posts and remind myself of product reviews. Nothing like some new stationary to give you some motivation!

Beauty: In my Spring make up bag

NYX 'Ladylike' Baked Blush c/o: This gorgeous blush is the perfect highlighter. It gives you such a glow and you only need a tiny sweep of product to make an impact. Keep a steady hand as it has a lot of shimmer - you could end up looking like a disco ball. It will look gorgeous with a tan!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner Trooper: I picked this up in Sephora during my trip to Chicago after a recommendation. Hands down my favourite eyeliner! It's so simple to use and creates the perfect cat eye every single time. The thin nib makes it so easy to get the perfect curve. I'll definitely be shipping another one over from the US once this runs out!

Bio Sculpture Gel '197' Nail Polish c/o: This gorgeous shade is such a pretty colour for Spring. It applies so easily and gives you a gorgeous shiny finish - no need for a top coat to get that shine! It's slightly streaky on the first application but once the second one goes on, it's great.

Essie 'Hubby for Dessert' Nail Polish: During a jet-lagged induced spree at 7am in the morning, I picked up this in Walgreens on holiday. I obviously needed more pastel colours in my life... I haven't worn this yet but I just know it's going to be on rotation throughout Spring.

Kat Von D 'Berlin' Everlasting Lipstick: This was a cheeky splurge whilst I was in Chicago - I couldn't not pay a trip to Sephora! I'd heard a lot of good things about these lipsticks and they are certainly worth the hype! They dry matte and last forever! Seriously they won't budge. There's just something about Spring that makes me gravitate towards pink.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer: This saves my life. Every. Single. Day. It's the best concealer I've ever used and covers up those dark circles like a pro. It's lovely and thick and blends perfectly in. You've created a beauty Benefit!

Anatomicals Banana Lip Balm: I took this out of the beauty box at work when I needed a lip balm to combat the weather. It was a good shout! The smell is delicious - it immediately transports you to warmer climates. The change in seasons can be harsh on your lips so a decent lip balm is always a must. It's slightly gooey but does the job. You just need to make sure you only squeeze a little out!

Essie 'Blossom Dandy' Nail Polish: This was another polish that accidentally fell into my suitcase while I was in Chicago. I probably have five all similar to this shade but I'm a sucker for Essie and holiday money doesn't count right? It's such a pretty shade and is perfect for the warmer months. It only takes two coats before it's opaque and lasts a good few days before any sort of tip wear. Perfection!

Charlotte Tilbury 'Lost Cherry' Matte Revolution Lipstick: This was a very kind present from my blogging pals - they did good! I'm usually a red girl but this shade is stunning. It goes on like a dream and has good staying power. It's a great shade to add a little pop to your outfit - certainly makes a statement.

Maybelline Dream 'Coffee Cake' Bouncy Blush: I always find a cream blush is much more suited to Spring than a powder. I love this layered over a slight peach blush for a sun kissed look. Try not to be too heavy handed as you can tend to look like a clown. Build it up slowly!

Beauty: 5 minute pamper ideas

In the ideal world we'd all be able to spend hours pimping and preening our body to perfection. But after a hard day at work, sometimes you just want to collapse into bed after dinner. I often struggle to do much of a beauty routine during the week - I have my current one down to a cool 15 minutes. But I don't want to wait until the weekend to get some pampering in - or rather my skin can't wait till them. So I've put together a few pampering products that only add an extra five minutes onto your night time routine. You can even spread them out over the week!

Jurlique Rose Hand Cream c/o
I'm a sucker for anything Rose scented so obviously this product had me at hello! I pop it on my hands just before I nod off to sleep. I find it a bit too thick for frequent use during the day but it's a perfect intense moisturiser. My hands feel so soft and supple the next day. It's a lifesaver especially in this continuous cold weather!

No 7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser
I always stock up on this when Boots have their skincare vouchers. This is such a staple in my skincare collection - I can't sing it's praises enough. When I have more energy, I use this product to double cleanse my face. It helps to make sure every last scrap of make up has been removed. It only takes a few minutes but it makes a world of difference.

Lotil Cream with Aloe Vera Extract c/o
Feet are often forgotten about when it comes to personal grooming. This thick, luscious cream is perfect to slather on before you go to bed. Pop on a pair of socks to lock it in and voila you'll wake up with gorgeous tootsies. It literally takes a minute and the rewards will be great!

Super Facialist By Una Brennan Tea Flower Deep Clean Purifying Clay Mask
I found this tucked under my endless toiletries pile and decided to give it a whirl before Christmas. Since then it's become a staple. It only stays on your face for five minutes before you wash it off - perfect for when your bed is calling! It has quite a thin formula so it feels like it dries in an instant. Beware of a slight tingly feeling as it dries - it's nothing to worry about. My skin always feels so refreshed and I can notice the difference the next day.

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor Conditioner  c/o
As much as I love a deep conditioner, sometimes I haven't got the time or patience to wait ten minutes for it to work it's magic. This product takes just three minutes to make your hair silky smooth. I usually use it around three times a week to help my hair keep it's shine. You'll need a dollop the size of a golf ball and make sure you smooth it down to your very tips. It's fantastic if your hair is feeling a little dry.

A few favourites #2

Mary Berry Baking Bible
I was very kindly given this by my sister-in-law for Christmas. I just adore Mary Berry - she's such a babe and whenever I follow her recipes I always have such incredibly tasting cakes. Admittedly I haven't made anything out of this yet as I've just not had time to think since the festive period. But things should calm down soon and I have the cheese straws and Swiss Roll at the top of list of things to bake.

Matalan Pink Initial Scarf
My mum bought my dad his own version of this scarf just before Christmas and kindly treated me too when I expressed an interest. I love things with my initial/name and I kind of feel a little like High School Musical in it. It's very warm and the £10 goes straight to Alder Hey charity. Not only do you look good but you do a good deed at the same time!

Topshop Forest Green Tunic
I've been on the hunt for suitable tops for jeans for what feels like my whole life. Okay slight exaggeration there... But in an era of crop tops, they're like a needle in a haystack. I'm quite fussy and like tops to cover my bum and to be long and flowing.  Thankfully Topshop have come up trumps with this tunic. I love the colour and it skims perfectly past my rather large booty - winner all round! I might have to get it in the oxblood colour too.

No7 Pop and Glow Cream Blush Stick
I bought this with a No7 voucher, used it once and then popped it in my make up drawer and promptly forgot all about it. Fast forward to a day where I was determined to finally get a hold on my mountain of stuff - never did - and I came across it. Since then it's barely left my cheeks. Although the colour looks a touch scary, it's the perfect shade to build to your tastes and has great staying power. I'd love to try other shades in the range.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Laquer Big Bang
Over the last few months I can seem to get enough of a red lip and this is one of the top contenders that I reach for. It can be a little tricky to apply as it's so easy to be heavy handed with it. A lip liner might help to keep it under control. But it really does pack a punch.

Enrapture Totem Styler
I asked for this a few birthday's ago when it reached the dizzy heights of the blogger hype. Everyone and their dog seems to have one. Again it had been pushed to one side for a good few months - sense a theme? I need to detox my room. But I picked it up before Christmas and instantly remembered how much I loved it. I adore the fact you can adjust the curl depending on your mood and it really does lasts on my dreaded heavy hair. Perfect!

Beauty: Winter Skincare Saviours

Winter can be harsh on your skin. The coldness offers no favours to anyone and dry, chapped skin is never attractive so it's important to give it a bit of a helping hand. Here are a few of my winter favourite that deserve round of applause.

Cath Kidston Wild Rose Hand Cream
I always face such a battle during the colder months to help keep my hands in check. They easily become dry and chapped - even cracked to the point the start to bleed. Horrible right? So as a result I'm always carrying a hand cream or two in my handbag. Most of the time they're rubbish but every now and then I come across a gem. This was a gem. I got this for Christmas and cracked it open a few weeks ago. I love the fresh rose smell and a little goes a long way. It feels non greasy and you can feel the effects almost straight away.

Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter
Like I've mentioned many times before, I love a thick and luxurious body cream - none of this lotion for me please. This Soap and Glory beauty fits the bill. It doesn't irritate my skin after I've given my legs a quick shave and stops me from looking a little like a scaly reptile after a few hours post bath. My skin feels really supple and the cream sinks in within 30 seconds. There's nothing worse than you legs slipping all over the place when you pop your trousers on is there?

Soap and Glory Heels Genius
Despite it coming out the tube a radioactive blue colour, this stuff is pretty special. I pop it on before I go to bed and let it soak in overnight within a pair of old socks. Come the morning, my feet are looking a hell of a lot better than they did the night before. If you're on your feet all day or you wear silly shoes like me, this is needed on your bedside table.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask
This was a recommendation by Sarah and I'm now on my second bottle. It's such a wonder hydration product and is well worth the £23 price tag. I use it every single night and sometimes in the morning if I feel my skin needs even more TLC. It makes your skin feel so soft and just glides on effortlessly. It's the perfect pick me up for tired and worn out skin.

Simple Blackhead Eliminating Face Scrub
Thanks to the horrible dark nights and short days, I have to admit I can sometimes neglect my face. I just take my make up off with a wipe before sinking down into the pillow to hibernate. As a result my skin starts to rebel and lots of gross blackheads pop up. This product helps to keep them under control and I notice a difference in just a few days. Amazing!

Nuxe Reve De Miel Lip Balm
This lip balm is far from being cheap but it's also one of the best I've used. It's great to pop on before you go to bed for smooth lips in the morning. It's really rich and you can almost feel it working while it's on your lips. It's great for prepping your lips ready for a swipe of lipstick. I'd definitely buy again once it's run out!

What are your winter skincare saviours?

3 perfumes i'm loving

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum
This is my all time favourite perfume - I'd bathe in this if I could afford it! It's just such a classic, signature scent. I save this for special occasions as I simply can't afford to use it every day because it's way out of my budget! It's always on my Christmas/ birthday list. It's a scent that always gets a compliment and has great staying power - a little goes a long way. I just adore the gorgeous rose smell as florals are a definite plus for me in a perfume. Definitely one to pick if you fancy a little bit of luxury in your life!

Marc Jacobs Lola
This was a Christmas present from my parents - they did good! I've been a massive Marc Jacobs fan for years with Daisy as my number one. I've also tried Dot and now this. Again this is a floral scent - sense a theme? I love the base notes of vanilla and the hint of grapefruit. The creamy musk keeps it from smelling too sweet. It seems like MJ has done it again!

Soap and Glory Super Tonic Fragrance Orangeasm
I always keep a cheaper everyday perfume on my shelf as I don't have the dollar to buy expensive ones all the time. Money doesn't grow on trees after all! I picked up this in the Boxing Day sales in a gift set alongside a body butter and body wash. It smells gorgeously refreshing and has a subtle hint of mint. It doesn't last too long but the tonic is a good size to pop in your handbag so you can top up throughout the day. It's going to be the perfect scent when the warmer months hit.

What's your favourite scent at the moment? Any recommendations?

Review: Rush, Loughton

There's nothing I love more than having a good pampering session so when Rush got in touch and offered me a complimentary blow dry, I couldn't say yes please quick enough. I had so much about Rush but had never had the opportunity to visit a salon.

Rush opened on Loughton High Street earlier this month and it was all sparkling and new when I visited - it was literally just over a week old. I was immediately whisked off to have my hair washed by the lovely junior. She happened to be from the same town as me so we had a lovely chat and she did a very good head massage. I thought I was going to nod off there and then. I loved the little touch of the drink and a few pretzels to nibble on. Food is always the way to my heart!

I was in the salon for over an hour while the owner preened and primped my hair into a voluminous masterpiece. Just look how beautiful it is?! I certainly had a spring in my step when I walked out. He talked me through every product that was put in my hair and constantly asked if I was ok and happy with the service. The blow dry lasted all day which was very impressive considering it was done at 1pm - it still had a little oomph after i'd slept in it. I'd definitely go back if I was after a little helping hand before a special day or even a well deserved treat.

If only I could afford to have a professional blow dry every day eh? That would be the life!

Seeing clearly

I've been a glasses wearer since the tender age of 7. By the time I went to secondary school I was wearing them full time. Mostly because I was a lazy bum and didn't take them off between classes and my eyes grew used to them. When I was 14 following lots of tears about boys being horrible, my mum took me to the opticians to get my first pair of contact lenses and i've never looked back.

I'm not a regular contact lens wearer - it usually works out around twice a week, sometimes not even that. I value my lay ins to be wearing them every day as I feel like I need to make much more of an effort with my make up if i'm not wearing my glasses. So it's taken me a while to get this review up.

1-Day Acuvue Tru Eye have more moisture than my old contacts which means I can wear them for longer without my eyes drying out. This used to be such a problem as it worked out I often had my contacts in for 12 hours a day as I get home around 7pm. My eyes would be irritable and I couldn't wait to pop my glasses on. My eyes now feel less itchy and I never feel like I actually have any contacts in. It's a revelation! They also have the highest UV blocking protection available which makes them great for the hot summer months. Your eyes should be one of the most important things you look after! They're so easy to pop in and very rarely make my eyes water.

I was very kindly given a contact lens test at Specs of Kensington in Earls Court to work out what prescription I needed. I felt very well looked after and felt my eyes were in the best possible care. The optician talked me through why it was important to look after my eyes and why Tru Eye would work best for me. She gave me a weeks to trial and then I had to come back for a follow up appointment to see how I was getting on. She asked me to voice any concerns and looked at how well the contacts were sitting in my eyes.  The contacts were a success and I was given a months free. They may be a little more expensive than my regular ones but I've fallen in love with them and have since purchased them twice again. I'm more than willing to shell out the extra dosh. I don't think I'll ever go back to wearing my old ones.

Are you a regular contact lens wearer? What ones do you use?

Neutrals

Clinique Cheek Pop 01 Ginger Pop, Flori Roberts Sheer Peach c/o, Clinique Chubby Stick 09 Heaping Hazelnut, Nails Inc Jermyn Street

Admittedly I'm more of a bright colour girl but every now and then you need a good nude in your life. So for when this moment occasionally occurs I have a few neutral colours I fall back on.

I bought this Clinique blush on a whim after having a bit of a supermarket sweep dash in Sephora when I was in New York. It's not had a whole lot of use but the few times I have worn it, it makes me wonder why I don't reach for it more often. It has great staying power and is still visible after a long day at work. The pigmentation gets ten points and you only need a little to make your cheeks stand out. I also picked up this chubby stick on the same trip and boy do I wish I'd picked up more than one. A word of warning though - make sure your lips are in tip top shape as it's not forgiving on dry lips! This is great when you want to make less of a statement and feels like a balm. Admittedly it doesn't have amazing staying power so it's not one to wear when you're doing lots of drinking and eating.

This Flori Roberts gloss adds some glamour to your make up. It's extremely high shine and packs neutral punch. It would look great layered over a nude lipstick. It's quite sticky so not one to wear on a windy day but name me a gloss that isn't! It comes out a bit more orangey on the lips that it looks in the packaging.

Finally this Nails Inc polish is made for the autumn. It such a classy and elegant colour, It only takes around two coats to make it streak-free and opaque. Nails Inc are one of my favourite brands as they tend to stay chip free for at least a few days. They glide on easily and dry fairly quick.

What's your favourite neutral?
